Weymouth Foodbank Warehouse Blessing and Safeguarding Officer

Foodbank Invitation

Weymouth Foodbank is looking for someone to act as Safeguarding Officer. Although we do not have unaccompanied children at our locations, we do have many clients who would be considered as vulnerable, who we want to deal with in an appropriate way. We want to ensure they are kept safe from physical, mental or emotional abuse.

We need someone to :-

  1. Keep the Trustees informed of changes in safeguarding requirements to ensure that we apply best practice. This includes updating our policies and procedures.

  2. Ensure that Trustees and others in Leadership position within Foodbank are appropriately checked.

  3. Ensure that all of our volunteers are sufficiently aware of safeguarding policies and how they should operate in view of these.

  4. Act as a point of contact if any safeguarding issues arise.

If required, we can arrange training. We also have a contact with significant experience in this area who is happy to give guidance. To express interest or to have an informal chat about the role, please either email or contact Jean- Paul (JP) Dervley, the Chair of Trustees using our Contact Form.

Finance News

After almost 4 months of the year here is an update on WBC finances:

  1. Thank you to all of you who give to WBC by whatever means - the offerings are on track to meet the budget for the year.
  2. If you give to WBC and pay tax but don't Gift Aid your offerings please think about doing so to increase your gifts by 25%.
  3. We will soon be facing some major necessary expenses on fabric issues such as the flat roof repair and the installation of a lift for disabled access.
  4. The good news for the Millner family is that the manse is almost ready for them to move into thanks to the efforts of many people - both members and local tradesmen.
  5. Thank God for His continued blessing on all that goes on at WBC.

We have a few things for Pete and Sarah for when the Manse is ready. We'd like to store these and request if anyone has some spare room for such like a good double mattress and some other items for them. We'd be very grateful in the aid of our move soon.

About Rhys Spracklen’s Morocco 2025 World Challenge Fund - My Name is Rhys and I’m a Year Nine student at All Saints Academy in Weymouth. I’m excited to share that in the summer of 2025, I will be embarking on a life-changing adventure with the World Challenge Programme to Morocco.

During this trip, I will have the opportunity to support community initiatives and undertake a challenging trek to the highest peak in North Africa.

To make this adventure a reality, I am actively fundraising through a variety of events and activities. Your support, however big or small, is very much appreciated.

A Professional Photographer Needs SubjectsPhotographer

Fiona Daborn has been in touch with news that one of the residents of the Barge is a professional photographer who needs to build his portfolio and currently has time to do this. Neil Hardisty has been in touch with this notice of grateful thanks for the new volunteers who have come forward at the Nest Shop & Café.

Also there is now the possibility of the café opening on Saturdays.

Paper Cups

Please be aware that the cup bins on Sunday mornings are emptied by hand, so please don’t put used tissues or other rubbish in them. There are two rubbish bins in the Welcome Area for rubbish but not cups.

Why not go ‘Green’ and bring your own reusable cups?

Thank You.

Volunteers Needed for Kids on the Wey

KIds on the Wey Logo

Dear WBC Family,

As leader of ‘Kids on the Wey’ (our Sunday morning provision for Primary-aged children), I am reaching out to you because we need more volunteers to join our team. One of our dedicated leaders, Ian Newton has stepped down after many years of devoted service. We are so thankful for Ian’s faithfulness over the years but now need more volunteers willing to step up and help continue this vital ministry.

If you have a heart for children’s ministry or a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of our children, we invite you to prayerfully consider becoming a part of our team. No prior experience is necessary - just a willingness to share Gods love and support the spiritual development of our youngest members. All volunteers will be supported and of course subject to DBS checks.

Thank you for prayerfully considering this opportunity to serve at WBC through our children’s ministry. If you feel led, have any questions or would like more information, please email me at pricerhiannon@hotmail.com

Many Thanks,

Rhiannon

Ginnie's Jottings

From the pen of Ginnie CoombsBlessings, Ginnie

Listening to God - John 10 v 27 “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me”.

I have talked to many Christians to whom the listening side of prayer is still a mystery.

They say that they have sat still and listened but all they hear is the everyday noises around them.

Listening to God is an art and we need lots of time and months to quiet our souls and cultivate the art of listening to God's voice above all others.

What does God's voice sound like? Sometimes it's a gentle impression, sometimes a Bible verse; sometimes we really feel God speaking to our conscience and heart or speaking through another person.

One thing is certain, those who cultivate the power to listen to his voice need to set time aside specifically every day to listen.

Jesus wants to speak to us but do we want time to listen and learn?
